Effective treatment of Peyronie's disease

Michael helps those troubled by Peyronie's disease at the clinic with focused shockwave therapy that significantly reduces your penile smoking. This happens without side effects and improves your erection at the same time. You will regain some of the lost penis length and fullness that may have been associated with Peyronie's disease. Therefore it is NOT necessary to have an unpleasant operation as a first choice. Watch the short video above for a brief and simple explanation of Peyronie's disease and treatment, or read more in detail below.

Shockwave therapy without side effects

The clinic is a leader in Denmark in ultrasound scanning and focused shockwave treatment of Peyronie's disease. The clinic disposes of special equipment for precise treatment completely without side effects of the "ball or string" of plaque/fibrosis that you can feel. If you choose surgery as your first choice, there may be a risk of side effects and further erection problems. At the moment, the clinic together with Storz Medical in Switzerland, a leader in shockwave equipment, has launched a new research study on ultrasound scanning in relation to Peyronie's disease, demonstrating the efficacy of shockwave.

Treatment by specialist in urological shockwave

The clinic receives daily visits from men with Peyronies for examination and treatment. This gives Michael a great deal of specialist knowledge and experience in the field in relation to accurate diagnosis with ultrasound and subsequent treatment with shockwave. When you meet Michael at the clinic, you are in safe hands. He specialises in Peyronie's disease and general sexual dysfunction in men. He is a member of The International Society for Sexual Medicine and therefore always keeps up to date with the latest research. A course consists of six treatments with shockwave and EMTT and you can expect at least a 50% reduction in curvature.

Pre-treatment counselling

You can call and have a non-binding, confidential 10-15 minute consultation with Michael for more information on how you can get help. You can also book an examination and treatment directly via our online system here on the site. Select "First consultation urological dysfunctions". There is almost always an appointment for examination/treatment within a week if you are flexible.

    FAQ about Peyronie's disease

When you come for the first consultation, Michael goes into depth about the whole problem both in terms of physical and psychological effects. The first consultation takes place as follows.

    1. 1.A thorough review of the degree of curvature, your physical and mental health, your medical history and any impact on your erectile function is performed.
    2. 2.We perform a high quality ultrasound scan to identify the size of the fibrosis/plaque (the ball/string you feel).
    3. 3.At the same time, we cover the expectations you have for the treatment and the level we expect you to be able to achieve based on the results of the examination.
    4. 4.You will receive your first treatment with Shockwave and EMTT if you want to start the treatment. During this, you will be instructed on home exercises to do between treatments to ensure a good result.

At the beginning of the treatment, it may be beneficial to take a photo of the penis in an erect state to show the location of the curvature. In this way, we can better target your treatment.

We go in-depth to make sure we put the right treatment strategy in place to renew your sex life. The treatment and examination is carried out by a leading Danish expert in urological shockwave therapy named Michael, who is a member of The International Society for Sexual Medicine .

The treatment is performed with focused shockwave, also known as ESWT (Extracorporeal ShockWaveTherapy). This is done by "firing" high-frequency sound waves into the area of fibrosis/plaque via an application head. This involves altering the biological processes around the "ball" so that it breaks down into a less solid form. Thus, during the course of treatment, the area of plaque will be affected until it breaks up into smaller pieces, thus reducing the curvature. The processes that are set in motion can be reinforced by a few different home exercises that we teach you when you come for treatment.

In particular, the biological processes surrounding the transformation of collagen, the release of stem cells, cell communication and blood vessel formation are the reasons why we can effectively use shockwave against Peyronies. When combined with EMTT, this is because the general stimulation is increased, ensuring that the tissue becomes more elastic and flexible. There are no other clinics offering this combination treatment in Denmark. When the tissue is hard, it also leads to increased curvature and can in some cases result in a shorter penis.

The treatment itself is done by applying a gel to the penis at the fibroid and then we shoot 4000 pulses into the tissue. The treatment feels like tingling and there may be some soreness after treatment. Therefore, sexual intercourse is not recommended for a period of 24 hours after treatment.

In order to identify the degree of fibrosis/plaque, it is necessary to do an ultrasound scan. It is not enough to "just" feel. This also ensures that we hit the right area in the subsequent shockwave treatment. Ultrasound scanning for Peyronies is only offered by a few clinics in Denmark and thus Michael has extensive experience and knowledge in identifying fibrosis/plaque in the penis. It can also identify stiff connective tissue to see if this is the cause of the problem.

It has an impact on the prognosis of the course of treatment and subsequent outcome. We will help you understand this when we do the scan. Here you can see some examples of different sizes of fibrosis in the penis.

A normal course of treatment lasts six weeks with one shockwave treatment per week. At each point, we send 4000 pulses of shockwave into the area where the hard "ball/string" is located. We supplement with EMTT to increase the elasticity of the tissue and thus get more "space" again. After the treatment, you can expect less curvature, less pain in the area and increased sexual function. In addition, if fibrosis is widespread, more treatments can be performed.

    • It costs 1,200 Danish kroner per treatment with shockwave and possibly in combination with EMTT paid in cash or via Mobilepay
    • The first examination costs 1,400 Danish kroner including ultrasound scan with treatment.
    • As one of the few clinics in Denmark and the only one in Copenhagen, Michael works directly with Storz Medical in Switzerland. They are the leading manufacturer of shockwave equipment for urological problems and thus we are also at the forefront of the latest research and technology in the clinic in relation to specific equipment for the treatment of Peyronies.

Induratio penis plastica can be compared to an inflammation-like condition that usually first manifests itself with pain and tenderness in the penis. It is usually most pronounced during an erection during intercourse and can therefore affect sex drive. It can also in severe cases lead to erectile dysfunction .

Peyronie's disease, which is not congenital, can occur during life due to an autoimmune reaction, among other things. This may have been triggered by small injuries to the penis during sexual activity. This causes thickened, tender nodules to form in the swelling bodies, which in turn cause pain and discomfort. However, the condition is completely harmless. In the inflammatory phase, shockwave and EMTT can reduce pain and possibly slow progression.

Whether the curvature is congenital or acquired later in life, a slight curvature of the penis does not cause any symptoms or pain. Curvature should be treated exclusively in cases where the degree of curvature makes sexual intercourse difficult or impossible.

The condition normally progresses in two phases:

    1. 1.The first phase usually lasts for a year and is recognised by painful erections while the penis begins to curve and become deformed.
    2. 2.In the second step, the soreness decreases. Here, the painful areas heal together with stiff scar tissue or so-called plaque. The result can be an hourglass-shaped penis in an erect state or penis smoking.

The condition will not heal on its own and treatment will be required. Studies have shown that 10% experience an improvement after 5-10 years, 40% experience the condition as stable and 50% experience deterioration over time.

Congenital significant curvature of the penis is relatively rare and occurs in less than 1% of men.

However, induratio penis plastica is not uncommon. The prevalence increases with age and affects up to 13% of the male population to varying degrees. Not everyone experiences problems and it is rare for the condition to be so pronounced that it becomes difficult to have sexual intercourse with a partner.

As a non-invasive treatment, shockwave is the most effective. However, in severe cases, surgery is by far the most effective treatment and 50-75% of curvatures will be corrected satisfactorily. However, at least one year must elapse from the end of the curvature process before surgery is offered.
